mmigration reform has been a topic of debate for many years. From securing our borders to controlling illegal immigration, our nation is divided on the manner in which this issue should be handled. After many years away from the national stage, immigration reform has recaptured the lime light and now sits at the forefront of many legislative and political agendas.
Communities and organizations throughout the United States are mobilizing to support fair comprehensive immigration reform and rallying against bills such as HR 4437, recently passed in the US House of Representatives. Now the Congress is poised to pass the most significant immigration legislation in over 20 years and it is critical that supporters actively participate in and demonstrate the need for a fair immigration bill.
CASA, in conjunction with other local community grass root organizations, are joining forces to advocate on the importance of sound immigration reform. On February 18th, CASA partnered with the Florida Immigrant Coalition and participated in a special march titled “Unity and Equality for Immigration Reform”. Hundreds of immigration rights supporters and representatives from many local community organizations gathered at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami, marched to the Freedom Tower and met back at Bayfront Park for a rally which called on federal officials to disavow recently passed, anti-immigrant legislation known as the “Sensenbrenner Bill” (HR 4437).
