The purpose of the Family Literacy and Toutoring Service is to assist children in developing and refining their educational goals while helping parents actively participate in their children’s education. This is accomplished by fostering an environment where parent and child can spend quality time reading, writing and participating in educational activities in an environment conducive to learning.
The program provides an experience that encourages parents to take the lessons and skills learned at home to help their child succeed in his or her schooling. Essentially, it helps parents and children reach new heights in their educational goals.
The After School Tutoring service helps students with their reading, math and FCAT skills.
In addition, assistance is provided for students with difficulties understanding English (ESOL); the tutor can tailor the program based on each child’s particular learning style.
The main objective is to help students who are having difficulties within the school system reach their potential through one on one assistance with a tutor who can help them excel in their studies.
The tutoring classes are held at 10600 SW 4 St. The tutoring schedule is Monday-Thursday from 3:30 P.M to 6:30 P.M. The after school tutoring classes are only available to K-5th grade students.
The service is free of charge.
Our English Classes for parents are conducted at Sunset High School. The ESOL classes taught are levels one and two and advanced levels. Classes are held Monday thru Thursday from 6:45 P.M. to 9:45 P.M for first levels and 930 am – 100pm at the Research & Development Center. For registration or for more information, please call Yuritzi Acosta, Education Program Director at 305-221-9199. Classes are free of charge.

The Research & Development Center functions as a centralized facility offering level five and six ESOL classes, as well as FCAT preparation. The center also provides job seeking skills, an electronic employment bank and several educational seminars and activities. In addition, students of all educational levels have access to information for performing in-depth research and analysis on subjects ranging from Colombia’s history, culture, people, immigration and the socio-political/economic environment. With the provision of this information, CASA seeks to promote a more comprehensive understanding of Colombia while increasing the public’s ability to learn the issues that impact our diverse communities.
The Research & Development Center is located at 2460 SW 137 Avenue, Suite 254. Miami, FL. 33175. For registration or more information please contact Yuritzi Acosta. Education Program Director at 305-221-9199
CASA works with several local state and national organizations in addition to government agencies in order to provide the community with a variety of educational forums and seminars. These seminars, in the areas of employment, financial literacy and homeownership are geared to develop the well-being and enhance the quality of life of all immigrant families.
In addition, CASA organizes special events designed to provide essential information for immigrants who seek direction in their effort to understand and assimilate to a new culture and a new country. An event like “The Foreign Professional’s Fair” for example, sets out to provide information on how to revalidate foreign professional degrees and become self-sufficient members of society.
