Miami, Florida (April 2, 2004) - C.A.S.A., Colombian American Service Association, will be inaugurating the Latin American Heritage Reading Program at the West Kendall Regional Library in an effort to make the works of important Latin American authors available to the community at the West Kendall Regional Library.
State Representative Juan C. Zapata and Miami-Dade Commissioner Joe Martinez will be presenting the $2,000 check to Library officials during a ceremony to inaugurate the program sponsored by C.A.S.A. The funds will be used to purchase 150 books ranging from works such as Rafael Pombo from Colombia to Fernando Sorrentino from Argentina .
The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 7 th at 3:30 pm at the West Kendall Regional Library, 10201 Hammocks Blvd.
"In South Florida we pride ourselves of being the gateway to Latin America , and it's only logical that we should be the gateway to its culture as well," said Zapata. "This contribution by CASA to our region's culture is the type that keeps on giving, because the impact of a book is long-lasting and can pass from one generation to the next."
